As luck would have it....

I wrote earlier about my adventures while trying to enroll in a digital photography class. Well, as luck would have it, someone canceled at the last minute and I do mean the last minute. Carol  from the Bemis School of Arts called me at home at about noon on Tuesday, January 27th which was the first day of the class. Someone had canceled from the 6:30pm class and she needed to know if I was still interested. "Of course", I said, "That's great! I'll be there."

Great! I came home from work on Friday afternoon with a mild cold which had quickly blossomed into bronchitis and the flu by Saturday morning. I hadn't been out of the house since. In 4 days, the extent of my activity had been to climb out of bed, stumble downstairs and collapse into the recliner where I stayed. Evelyn, my wonderful wife, made sure I was well medicated, hydrated and fed. I barely keep my eyes open enough to comprehend the images burring across the TV screen. By the way, daytime TV sucks.

But, there was an opening in the class. The class I had braved a snow storm to enroll in. The class I had joined the Fine Arts Center to get a better shot at. The class I thought I would have to wait until the summer or fall before I could get in. Of course, I was going. Flu, be damned!

So I gathered up my strength, showered and dressed for the first time since Saturday morning. Yes, I know, eeew! I then gathered up my camera equipment and Evelyn drove me to the school. I trudged up the stairs, entered the class room, found a chair and propped myself up against the nearest wall and tried to focus on the instructor.

My god, that was one of the longest 2 hours of my life. Don't get me wrong, I love the class but between stifling coughing fits, wondering if I would fall out of my chair from lightheadedness, of just pass out from the fever, I couldn't wait for it to end so I could go back home a climb into bed.

And that's just what I did. I slept all night and most of the next day.

I have since been to another class and on a field trip. Both were great and I am learning a lot.

Check out the photos from my first assignment below.
