Time to Renew

As I sat this morning and watched the snow fall and cover my dead-looking lawn, I began to think about Easter, both past and present. I have always looked at Easter and Spring as a time of renewal . Most people who know me also know that I am not a deeply religious person, I do have my beliefs and opinions but I’m not much for organized, got to be there every time the doors open type of religion. I’m more of a sit alone and ponder type of person. But regardless of your beliefs, you just can’t ignore nature coming back to life after a long winter’s sleep. Nature just seems to sleep a little longer in Colorado.

But I digress, after talking to one aunt who had lost her husband back in October and another aunt who lost a brother, father and mother-in-law last year, I couldn’t help but remember all the past Easters full of new clothes, Easter egg hunts and huge family dinners. I remember shopping for a new suit and shoes to wear to Easter services. I remember the joy of getting an Easter basket full of eggs and candy. I remember the thrill of the hunt as I scoured the backyard for the eggs that I had helped color the day before. As I got older, my nieces and nephews took over these roles but the joy of watching their excitement was just as special. Now as an adult, Easter seems to be more about getting together with family and celebrating another year and another chance to renew our spirit and start fresh. I guess Easter will always be about family to me.

This year will be full of fresh starts. My mother-in-law just moved in with Evelyn and I, so all three of us will be adjusting to new things. Evelyn is still looking for full time employment and will be starting fresh in a new job this year. A cousin of mine just announced today that he is going to get married to his longtime girlfriend thus starting fresh with his life.

Me, well I’m still plugging along. I’m not sure what I will be starting fresh with but if I want to look good in a suit at my cousin’s wedding in July I had better get back in the gym real soon.

So as the sun sets on another Easter I know that there will be green grass when the snow melts and nature will begin to wake up to a fresh start. I hope you experience the same.

Question of the Day

After a day of driving I’m too tired to write much but I do have the following question.

Why don’t trucks hauling helium float?
